The Family Feel Good programme is a Healthy Home Tutors project run by the Bryncynon Strategy.

The Family Feel Good Programme being run as part of Bryncynon Strategy's Feel Good Factory of healthy living projects delivers the 'Healthy Home Tutor' model in the Abercynon ward of Rhondda Cynon Taff.

173 children and adults have improved their knowledge about attitude to and levels of healthy eating and 158 children and adults have increased their knowledge about the benefits of exercise for a healthy life and increased their physical activity levels as part of the project.

The project is based in a very deprived part of the Cynon Valley and has adopted a person-centred, community development approach to the way it develops the project, working with people at a pace they are comfortable with and delivering projects in a setting they are most at ease with.

A key facet of the project’s work has been to engage children in a school setting at first in order to fire their imaginations, and discover more about projects as well as setting up a range of community engagement activities to get to know people.

It has developed projects which have ranged from a weekly community based 'Play and Stay' session for families with children under the age of 3; 'Water babies' family swim sessions for the same age group; lots of out of school doorstep physical activities for children (such as cheerleading, ballet and kickboxing); Family cookery sessions; Ready Steady Grow clubs and the home tutor scheme which is based entirely on the needs and interests of the children and adults we are working from.

Such interventions range from delivering our 5 week 'Tots Nosh' programme, to practical family cooking sessions and creating opportunities to maximize healthy eating and exercise in a daily family life.
