A survey of 1,500 British six to 15 year-olds, commissioned by Tata Steel in partnership with British Triathlon, has found that twice as many youngsters spend their free time in front of the TV (79%) as playing sport (34%). Nearly a quarter (22%) had never run 400 metres, 15% were unable to swim, and one in 10 could not ride a bike. 15% of them said they had never played sport with their parents. The survey marked the launch of the Tata Kids of Steel triathlon series, which aims to highlight the importance of providing young people with opportunities to play sports.
