The UK's first National Child Obesity Week will take place next month to urge the coalition government to do more to combat child obesity levels. The week of campaigning and lobbying will start on 5 July and has been organised by the National Obesity Forum (NOF) and Mend, which provides after-school healthy lifestyle programmes for children. It will urge the government to set out a clear plan of action and new targets regarding childhood obesity. Mend will also stage physical activity events in the 350 areas where it runs its afterschool programmes. NOF board member Tam Fry said: "The week must act as a prompt for the new coalition government to take urgent action to tackle the child obesity crisis and reverse existing trends that are severely damaging the health of our nation's children." |
