What better way to encourage healthy eating than to enthuse kids about cooking? The Focus on Food campaign is working across Wales to achieve just that. Established in 1998, the Focus on Food Campaign is the leading practical food education and outreach programme in the UK. It recognises that cooking is a basic life skill that all children deserve to be taught and it aims to inspire and enable young people and the wider community to select, prepare and cook healthy food. Its training is carried out on board its flagship mobile cooking classrooms known as Cooking Buses. Provided in partnership with the Welsh Assembly Government, the Food for Life Partnership via Big Lottery Funding and jointly by the Scottish Government and Food Standards Agency Scotland, the buses tour schools and community groups teaching cooking skills, nutrition, healthy eating and an appreciation of good food and where it comes from. Focus on Food's work extends beyond its buses, with the provision of essential resources to help teachers teach cooking skills. |
