Fun JAM

Fun JAM (Junior Active Munchers) is a Healthy Home Tutors project run by Conwy County Borough Council.

Fun JAM is delivered by a team of professionals who have experience of educating families, including young children in the aspects of healthy eating, physical activity/play and behaviour change. It is delivered initially in the localities of Llanrwst and Colwyn Bay, mirroring the Sure Start and Flying Start areas. In total, over the 3 year period, it is envisaged that 300 family members will benefit from this – including the children directly, their parents and any siblings. Group education is also supported by further follow up work in the home setting, where some of the barriers to change can be addressed.

As part of the project a bilingual resource pack is produced to support all of the sessions that are delivered, and provide a continued resource for families. The project also encompasses a programme of training for the community groups that exist in the areas already identified, so that there is a legacy that can be continued by those front line staff working in the Sure Start and Flying Start teams.

The project will add value to and support the informal work being undertaken by increasing awareness of the benefits of eating more healthily and increasing physical activity levels, and using a family support model to change existing unhealthy behaviours, whilst building crucial foundations for positive, future adult health.
