Fit 4 Fun

fit4fun‘Fit 4 Fun Wales’ is a Healthy Places project run by Carmarthenshire Children's and Youth Association. It gives the opportunity for families to explore ways of getting healthier, and have fun while doing so.

The aim of Fit 4 Fun is to raise the awareness of healthy eating issues as well as increase participation in physical activities amongst children and their families in Carmarthenshire. This is achieved by staging a host of fun events which are be both school and community based.

The project is primarily aimed at children aged 0-11 years old (and their families) in the areas of Glanymor, Tyisha, Llwynhendy, Bigyn, Felinfoel and Bynea in Llanelli; and Carmarthen Town North and West; and will run until December 2011. Over the course of the project over 2,000 children will have taken part and benefited from the activities.

The events themselves will comprise of a number of sessions and will be run by a host of professional activity providers in the fields of food & nutrition, dance, skateboarding, yoga, circus skills, holistic therapy, general play and a host of different sports. Parents and other volunteers are also encouraged to take part in the events and various training courses will be available to them in order to make the events sustainable and 'long term'.

As well as staging the events, the Fit 4 Fun team will achieve the aims of the project through the production of online interactive games, where children take control of Fit 4 Fun's mascot, Fabian the Fruit Cocktail.
