LEANA

LEANAlogoSwansea Council for Voluntary Service, in partnership with Spark Blaenymaes and Morriston Family and Children's Centre, have just launched an exciting new project called LEANA.

LEANA – which stands for Local Education Advice on Nutrition and Activity - aims to promote healthy eating and physical activity amongst children (aged 0-12 years) and their families from across Swansea.

It is one of just fourteen projects across Wales to be awarded money under the Big Lottery Fund's Way of Life - a three-year initiative using innovative ways of improving the health of children that have been informed by one of three models developed by health and nutrition experts Hall Aitken.

Under the Healthy Home Tutors model, LEANA has been awarded £373,058 to deliver advice and support programmes that will be tailored to the needs of the family in their own homes, and provide group activities in community settings. Practical, fun and engaging, both the one-to-one and group sessions will involve the whole family.

Over the next three years, two Healthy Home Tutors will be delivering the LEANA project to families from the Penderry and Clase/Caemawr and Morriston areas, while a Swansea-wide Coordinator will work with volunteers to deliver the project to a range of communities of interest, such as single parent families, families from BME communities, or families with children with special needs.
