Food and Fitness for Families is a Healthy Home Tutors project run by Cardiff County Council. The Food and Fitness for Families Project aims to provide the opportunity for volunteers to receive accredited training to become Healthy Home Tutors to support, encourage and enable families to make healthy lifestyle choices. It is an exciting and action-packed programme designed for families to learn together about nutrition and physical activity through the avenue of play. The project aims to work with families primarily from black and minority ethnic (BME) communities with children aged 12 and under living in Plasnewydd, Penylan, Canton and neighbouring wards. The programme lasts twelve weeks and the first one will commence in April 2010 and will repeat during term time until June 2012. Volunteers will deliver the Live and Learn programme, which consists of 12 one hour sessions based in the family home and community settings. In addition, there will be weekly FUN (Fitness and Nutrition) sessions that are open to all the families on the programme. FUN sessions are practical workshops that allow families to prepare meals and get active together. The Food and Fitness for Families Project will be delivered by Cardiff Council in partnership with Cardiff and Vale University Health Board.
